Bukit Lawang Night Trek

If you are looking for something a unique and want to look for Sumatra’s unique nocturnal species not seen during our day treks, how about joining our guides for a night trek?

Our unique night treks will take you to find the endangered leopard cats and civets and if you are lucky snakes, fun frogs, bats, mongoose, nocturnal birdlife, slow loris, mouse deer, otters or even the Malayan sun bear.

We will pick you up from your accommodation in Bukit Lawang and drive you to your guides home.

Have tea and a snack with your guide, while preparing your equipment for the trek and discussing the route and plans for the trek.

As soon as the sun sets, your guide will take you walking to several different areas where we have known sightings of the wildlife. You may pass through chocolate, coffee, oil palm and rubber plantations, rice fields, fish farms and small streams which searching for the animals.

After your trek your guide will take you back to your starting point for a debriefing session and a well-earned hot drink and snack before taking you back to your accommodation.

What’s Included?

  • Payment for guides.

  • Coffee/tea and snacks at local home.

  • All transport.

  • Please note that the night treks are not suitable for guests with reduced mobility. 

  • Treks begin at 5.30pm and may end around 12 midnight.

  • Please bring a good torch and spare batteries, insect repellent, sturdy footwear (as although it follows flat terrain, the ground may be uneven and slippery after rainfall), long trousers and long sleeve top. Treks require a minimum of 3 people. 

  • Minimum of 3 people up to a maximum of 8.

  • Single supplements apply so we may recommend joining with other solo travellers.
