Jungle trekking in Bukit Lawang

Join our highly experienced and knowledgeable guides on a trek through the Sumatran jungles. Our trekking guides have expert local knowledge of flora and fauna: second to none in Bukit Lawang and Aceh.

Our aim is to deliver expert-led treks and tours a cut above the rest, many of which use the word 'eco tourism' as a marketing tool to attract visitors. Our business is based on a combined 50 years of experience and expert academic knowledge of the animals and ecosystems of Sumatra.

We have experience and expertise to take visitors on sustainable and responsible tours where we can share our knowledge and educate our guests on the true beauty, the potential and the difficult issues facing our beloved Sumatra.

Immerse yourself in nature. Sleep out in a makeshift camp, enjoy delicious local food prepared for you over an open fire, bathe in the crystal-clear waters of the jungle rivers and get ready for a true adventure.

Our expert local guides will show you paths less trodden where you can experience natural waterfalls, spectacular scenery and unique wildlife including orangutans, gibbons, leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, pig-tail macaques, hornbills, elephants and if you are super lucky, tigers.

Typical Itinerary

After a relaxing night at your guest house or homestay and an early morning breakfast, your guide will take you into the Gunung Leuser National Park to begin your adventure.

Trekking Upstream

Trekking Upstream

Once inside the National Park the path you take will depend on your trek duration. The longer you plan to spend in the jungle, the deeper you can go, getting away from the well-trodden paths of other tourists.

We will adjust the challenge of the trek according to your wishes but remember this is a hill forest and all of the treks include some challenging ascents and descents to differing degrees, which are often muddy at times of rain. Sturdy footwear and a good level of fitness is a must for longer treks.

A picnic lunch will be provided for treks lasting for a whole day or more. And for treks including overnight stays in the jungle, your guide will select a suitable spot and set up a surprisingly comfortable camp for you to relax and enjoy the sounds and sights of the jungle. Listen to some jungle stories, do some fishing, enjoy a refreshing swim in the river or have a game of cards and be spoilt with a delicious dinner including fruit salads as you have never seen before… prepare to be amazed!
